The Institute of Applied Business and Economic Research was established in 1971 as part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Business Administration. Its purpose was to support research on the business and economic problems of North Carolina and the Southeast. From 1971 until its cessation in 1974, the Institute supported eleven major studies through grants from the Economic Development Administration of the United States Department of Commerce. Records include correspondence and other files relating to the administration of and research studies supported by the Institute of Applied Business and Economic Research.
